Feast Your Eyes On Alaskan Skies

Every single day someone makes plans for a trip and decides to drop them. That’s okay! Domestic traveling still manages to support almost 8 million jobs for Americans. Maybe they are not sure where they want to go, or perhaps they have not found the right place to visit. Or maybe, just maybe, they did not consider seeing the skies of Alaska.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Alaska? Cold? Well, sure, it is cold, but it is so much more than that. Alaska has quite the diverse landscape from snow-capped mountains to open green plains. Not to mention it is the largest state in the United States.

Clearly, it has something going for it. Why else would four out of every five visitors travel there for vacation pleasures? Grant it, 13 percent are seeing their friends and family and 5 percent are strictly on business trips, but even 3 percent of business trips turn into business and pleasure.

Around Anchorage and Kenai Peninsula seem to be hotspots. Over the past 10 years, visitors visiting by air has been hanging out around 80 percent; 2006 saw 79 percent; 2011 was right on 80 percent; and 2016 coasted by at 78 percent. And when people do visit, they are largely satisfied, almost 100 percent of the time. “Almost” is the keyword, though. Only 1 percent of visitors have actually claimed they weren’t very satisfied.

Maybe people love what Alaska has going for it.

What Does Alaska Have To Offer?

If it was not already apparent enough, Alaska is home to some great hiking spots. Taking one look at a picture of Alaska and you can already imagine the trails you would find and the wildlife you would see. That is not all, though. Alaska’s main attractions can be summed up in six activities: shopping, wildlife, cruises, nature and hiking tours, sightseeing and museums. All these activities

Shopping is oftentimes one of the main activities anyone does on vacation, and Alaska is not any different. In fact, 75 percent of vacationers end up shopping.

While Anchorage, Alaska is a big city, many locations in Alaska are small towns. This leaves Alaskan nature largely untouched. Go outside and see moose, fish for salmon, watch nature in its, well, natural habitat. As many as 45 percent of visitors will stop by to view the nature. There’s even whole nature, hiking, and sightseeing tours that you can participate in. In fact, 34 percent of visitors go on hiking and nature tours while 31 percent go sightseeing.

And who could forget about museums? You have the Anchorage Museum, and the Museum of the North, and even the Alaska State Museum, and many, many more. Stop by and dive into Alaskan history and culture.
