Put Down the Controller and Go Outside!

Day camp

Remember the fun that you had when you were younger? That excitement would build up all day until that magical moment when you got to go outside and play. Sadly, that’s not the case anymore. Only a third of children are even physically active, in any way, every day. Getting kids to enjoy eating healthy is one thing, but getting them go actually take part in fun activities outside, that should be easy!

Go Outside

There have been so many amazing innovations regarding technology over the last few decades, but they are coming at a cost. Our children are too attached to all this technology nowadays. Kids are spending close to eight hours a day in front of their screens when they could be spending their time much more productively: getting dirty, muddy, and sweaty by running around outside. Sitting on the couch and playing video games all day is not doing your kids any good. They might think that’s all they want to do, but once they feel that fresh air and start running around, they will realize how great it is to be outside and be active. The CDC has stated that it recommends at least an hour of exercise each day for kids. This doesn’t mean make your kids do bench sets at the gym. Encourage your kids to get their exercise by doing fun activities out in the yard.

Kids Camp

A summer camp or day camp for kids can provide everything children need to become healthy, happy, active, and fit kids. These camps have proved that they work: over 11 million kids attend a camp in the U.S. each year, and just over the past 20 years, the number of camps has grown nearly 90%. Camps aren’t just a place where kids can run around and be crazy, either. The kids will learn new skills and make friends, do fun activities, practice what they learned, and enjoy a break from all that technology.

Having fun shouldn’t have to feel like a chore. Adjusting to the outside world might take some kids a little bit longer than others, depending on how technology-dependent they have become, but kids naturally want to play, so they will get the hang of it. Encouraging kids to put down the video games and go outside for some healthy exercise and fun activities can be just what they need. Have fun!
