Taking A Closer Look At The World Of Martial Arts Here In The United States

Here in the United States and truly all throughout the world, marital arts are widespread and frequently practiced. From Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to Tai Chi to even Muay Thai, there are many ways that we see martial arts in today’s world. In fact, it has even been estimated that there are now more than three and a half million people participating in everything from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) all throughout this one country alone, let alone anywhere else in the entirety of the world where many forms of martial arts are, of course, quite commonplace indeed.

Martial arts like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be a good way to get up and moving on a regular basis, something that the average person does far too infrequently to be healthy. In fact, a mere 5% of all adults in this country are moving around for even just a mere half of an hour out of the day, with only about one third of them exercising as much as they should be on a weekly basis. And things are certainly not much better when we look at the population of children in this country as well.

In fact, though children over the age of two are recommended to get at least one hour of moderate activity throughout the day, only about one third of them are exercising at all. Much of this can be blamed on technology and addiction to screens, as the average child in the United States is actually likely to spend up to seven and a half hours of the day using various screens, from TVs to computers to tablets and beyond. Nowadays, more than half of all parents in this country (about two thirds of them, to be more exact) fear that their children are using technology too much and are not getting enough of the world outside of it, such as through exercise and physical activity in all of its varying forms.

Taking a martial arts class such as a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class can certainly be a great way to motivate yourself to get up and moving. A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class will not only help you to become stronger and more physically in shape, but it can also teach you some essential lessons in self defense. Therefore, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class can often be appropriate for the very young children interested in martial arts as well as adults. In addition to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, many forms of martial arts teach a strong sense of mental discipline, something that is likely to come in handy even well outside of the practice and in the rest of everyday life. For many people, the mental aspect of martial arts will actually prove to be just as important as the physical practice of a martial art such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – among many others.

Of course, martial arts is not just about strength and discipline – at least not entirely. The practice of tai chi, for example, can oftentimes be much gentler, making it ideal for practice among many populations. For instance, many elderly people or even just older adults very much enjoy the practice of tai chi, as tai chi can help to promote a better sense of balance. In fact, more than 50% of all elderly people participating in tai chi said that they found new confidence in the sense of balance that tai chi helped them to improve, often in quite the drastic way.

At the end of the day, there is likely the right form of martial arts out there for you. For some people it will be tai chi, for others it will be MMA. For even more it will turn out to be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Taking the time to learn any of these martial arts is likely to be quite hugely beneficial for your overall health – reducing the chances of developing a condition such as obesity by quite the considerable amount. Of course, such practices require determination and patience, and developing these skills can also help to better your overall mental state as well, again something hugely helpful.
